The limits

What this site will not do.

On this subject vagueness does harm, so the limits are on their own page rather than in a footer nobody reads.

Not medical advice

Everything here is educational. Nothing on this site, including anything the AI guide produces, is medical, clinical, psychiatric, psychological or therapeutic advice, and none of it substitutes for a professional who can see the person concerned.

This site will not diagnose your relative, will not say whether he is dependent or an alcoholic, and will not assess how serious it is. It has no sight of him and only one side of the account.

Not a treatment service and not a broker

This is not a clinic, a rehab, a detox unit, a fellowship, an intervention service or a placement broker. It does not assess, admit, refer or place anybody, and it recommends no named service. It takes no referral fee and never has.

Not legal advice, and not a safeguarding service

Nothing here is legal advice. Mental-health law, capacity, guardianship, safeguarding an older relative, child-protection proceedings, debt taken in your name and anything involving the courts need a professional where you live.

No verdict on your family

This site will not tell you to cut contact and will not tell you to keep it. It will not tell you that you are enabling him or that you are not doing enough. It does not know your family, your money, your history, or what you can carry.

Not a crisis service

It is not monitored by a person, it cannot see that anybody is in trouble, and it cannot contact anybody. If this is urgent, the safety page is the right page and your local emergency number is the right call.

What you type

Do not name your relative, his employer, his clinic, your solicitor or other people, and do not paste documents. Nothing written into a chat window is confidential or privileged.

If any of this reads as unhelpfully cautious, the alternative is a site that hints at medical, legal or clinic answers it is not qualified to give, to somebody who is frightened and about to spend money. That is the trade, and it is made deliberately.
